Dale Gieringer forwards a news story with a misleading headline —”Here’s what researchers know so far about how marijuana legalization affects public health.” The story summarizes a just-published study by RAND Corporation researchers. “Contrary to the headline,” Gieringer comments, “very little here is about effects on public health —emergency room visits, accidents, workplace safety, etc. They’re more concerned about the impact on drug consumption.”
But of course. The study by Rosanna Smart & Rosalie Liccardo Pacula, “Early evidence of the impact of cannabis legalization on cannabis use, cannabis use disorder, and the use of other substances: Findings from state policy evaluations,” was published in The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. The readers of this influential peer-reviewed publication are helping professionals for whom stoners diagnosed with Cannabis Use Disorder are a source of income.
